Atlanta, GA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Atlanta Braves signed veteran catcher A.J. Pierzynski and pitcher Josh Outman to one-year contracts on Wednesday. Pierzynski, 38, split 2014 with the Boston Red Sox and St. Louis Cardinals, finishing the season with a .251 batting average, five homers and 37 RBI in a combined 102 games. The two-time All-Star is a career .281 hitter with 368 doubles, 177 homers and 837 RBI over 1,865 games. He has also played for the Minnesota Twins, San Francisco Giants, Chicago White Sox and Texas Rangers. Outman was 4-0 with a 3.28 ERA in 31 relief appearances last season for the Cleveland Indians, who traded him to the New York Yankees in late August. He didnt allow a run in nine games for the Yankees. The 30-year-old lefty has a career record of 16-11 with a 4.43 ERA in 161 games (32 starts) for the Oakland Athletics, Colorado Rockies, Indians and Yankees. Discount Minnesota Vikings Jerseys . Saturdays Crossroads Classic matchup proved the Irish (11-1) have bragging rights in the Hoosier State, what with seven straight victories following their lone loss against Providence on Nov. 23. All five Notre Dame starters scored in double figures and Austin Torres donated 11 points off the bench for the victors. Demetrius Jackson led the way with 22 points, Steve Vasturia chipped in with 11, and Jerian Grant and Zach Auguste each added 10 in the rout. Jon Octeus, Bryson Scott and A.J. Hammons all scored 11 points as the Boilermakers (8-4) suffered their second straight loss. I felt Notre Dame simply stole our spirit and our guys gave in, Purdue head coach Matt Painter said. Purdue actually led by eight ssix minutes in, but Notre Dame answered with the next 11 points to take a 19-16 lead.dddddddddddd It was even, 29-29, before another spurt, this one a 13-2 stretch, gave the Irish the lead for good. Vasturias bucket yielded a 42-31 lead, and it was a 46-39 game at the break. A Grant 3-pointer extended the margin to 59-46 early in the second half, and the Boilermakers never pulled within single digits over the final 13 minutes. We got our offense flowing, Connaughton said. We are making the hard-nosed plays that we fell a little short on last season. The difference reached as high as 32. Game Notes The Irish committed only seven turnovers, the eighth time this season they have had fewer than 10 ... Purdue, which fell to 0-4 in this event, came in averaging 76.7 points per game ... Jamies number grades given are out of five, with five being the best mark. Jonathan Quick, Los Angeles Kings (4) - Quick made a big save early on, 30 seconds in on Nash, blocker side and had another big save on Marc Staal with the left pad. His rebound control was strong that period, the first goal by McDonagh coming on a screen shot, that tipped off of Jarret Stolls right leg and finds the net on the blocker side. The second goal came off a shot going two feet wide that hit Mats Zucarello and dropped down for the empty net. He made a good save on Anton Stralman early in period but got beat by Martin St. Louis on a two on one. On that one he was victim of an aggressive play, St. Louis making a perfect shot under the bar. The fourth goal was a bad turnover by Willie Mitchell, but Quick popped the puck up over Mitchells stick. It was awkward for him to go back to the net and he actually fell, but Derrick Brassard put it in the Open Net. The second was not a great period for him. He would have a strong third period, where he was not overly tested. He made a massive left pad save on Brad Richards at 4-4 that preserved the tie, that was vintage Quick. He made a good save early on in first overtime, while getting some help from a post on the shot by Chris Kreider. He then then made a great breakaway save on Kreider with under four minutes left and a nice left pad save with 30 seconds left on him.dddddddddddd Quick always finds a way to make the big save when his team needs it. Scoring chances were 18-18 this game, he came up with one big save more than Lundqvist tonight. Henrik Lundqvist, New York Rangers (4) - Lundqvist was sharp early on and aggressive outside his crease - which is more rare for him. He made a big save on Marian Gaborik which was tipped and another good blocker save on Tyler Toffoli. He also made a nice glove save on Alec Martinez. He gave up an early go to Stoll on a rebound and and ends up way out of net by oversliding leaving it wide open. He was outstanding on the penalty kill, making big saves on Justin Williams and Dustin Brown. The Mitchell goal was a screenshot from the point. He made a huge save on Williams where he tracked the puck and waited to make the glove save with a great read. The third goal couldve and shouldve been goaltender interference by Dwight King, leaving no chance for Lundqvist. The fourth goal was a scramble play, the second in the game where he was caught a bit for positioning. He was great early on in first overtime, making big saves on Trevor Lewis and Tanner Pearson twice. The winner in double-OT was a redirection by Brown in the high slot, leaving not a lot of chance on the goal. Sometimes those are the hazards of playing a deeper game, more net to see if there is a tip. BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The doctor treating Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly for cancer says Kelly will start chemotherapy and radiation next week. The treatment plan was outlined Tuesday by Dr. Peter Costantino of Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City, where the longtime Buffalo Bills star is being treated for a sinus cancer. Costantino says hes confident the regimen has a good chance of success. If not, he says Kellys skull-base tumour remains operable. Kelly underwent surgery in Buffalo last June to remove cancerous cells from his upper jaw. The chemotherapy and radiation will target cancer cells in his maxillary sinus and adjacent tissues. The 26-year-old spoiled Abbotsfords annual morning school day game Tuesday as he scored his first two goals of the American Hockey League season to lift the Texas Stars over the Abbotsford Heat 3-1. Entering Tuesdays game, Jeffrey had just three assists in 33 games with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Dallas Stars and Texas Stars. "Its been a difficult year," he said. "To get these two goals is big. I thought Ive been playing pretty well, helping our team in different ways with the penalty kill and whatever they need, so to contribute this way at a 10:30 a.m. game is big." "Dustins a great hockey player," added teammate Brendan Ranford. "Hes been chugging a little bit of late trying to get that puck into the net a Hes been going hard to the net and a lot of bounces werent going in for him, but tonight they were." Jeffreys second goal proved to be the game winner. Ranford sped down the left side of the ice and dished the puck off to Jeffrey who buried it just under Joey MacDonalds blocker from the top of the left circle at 8:55 of the middle period. "(Jamie Oleksiak) made a great breakout play," said Jeffrey. "We ended up having a four on three rush. I just took a step back and let the guys charge the net, (Ranford) hit me with the pass and it went right through the screen." Brett Richie had a goal, while Ranford picked up two assists. Oleksiak and Scott Glennie each added an assist in the victory. "We knew it was going to battle," said Jeffrey. "We knew that for us to be successful we had to play a strong game and take our chances when they came." Jack Campbell stopped 23 shots in the win for Texas (34-16-8).dddddddddddd "Campbell hasnt played in forever because of the injury hes been having," Ranford said. "Hes an exceptional goalie a Hes always square to the shooter and he played very well for us and thats what we need." Sven Baertschi had the lone goal for the Heat (33-19-6), who are now winless in their last five games. "I thought it was a great game from both sides," Baertschi said. "It was up and down, and great speed, too. It was a lot of fun to play today. We just couldnt put the puck in." MacDonald stopped 22 of 25 shots in the loss. Texas went 0-for-1 in on the power play while Abbotsford was 0-for-3. "In general, they were opportunistic," said Abbotsford head coach Troy Ward. "We had a couple of those chances, and we didnt score a They were just a little bit more opportunistic this morning." At 14:41 of the first period, MacDonald denied Texas forward Colton Sceviour when he stacked his pads to make a stop. Baertschi opened the scoring less than a minute later with a snap shot from the bottom of the right circle, beating Campbell high glove side. Jeffrey tied the game at 19:21 with his first goal of the season. Glennie found the puck down low and worked it behind the net to Ranford who found Jeffrey in front for the easy tap-in. "Glennie made a pretty good play to draw two of the defenders to him and that left Ranford open," explained Jeffrey. "He made a good play coming around the net and I just tried to create space in front of the net. He made a great play to find me and it basically went right off my stick." Brett Richie gave Texas a 3-1 lead at 10:29 of the third period on an unassisted breakaway, splitting two Heat defenders and going backhand high over a sprawling MacDonald. SAN DIEGO -- Other than one bad pitch, Chicago Cubs left-hander Travis Wood had a pretty good night. Wood came within five outs of pitching his first career shutout before allowing Carlos Quentins pinch-hit, two-run home run, and Chicago held on to beat the San Diego Padres 3-2 Saturday night. Wood (5-4) hit an RBI single and Luis Valbuena homered for the Cubs, who bounced back from an 11-1 loss Friday night. Wood allowed two runs and three hits in 7 1-3 innings, struck out three and walked two. "I felt good all game," Wood said. "I made a bad pitch there to Quentin. I wanted a cutter in, but didnt quite get it all the way in there and he got through it. But other than that everything was working pretty good all game." Quentin, who missed the previous four games with a groin injury, hit an 86 mph pitch an estimated 405 feet off the left-field facade with one out in the eighth to chase Wood. Quentin has five career pinch homers and two in one week. Yasmani Grandal was aboard on a one-out walk. Other than that, "my fastball was locating down and I got some quick outs there," Wood said. "All in all, no complaints other than one pitch, but thats going to happen." Quentin also hit a two-run, pinch homer last Saturday at Colorado. He hurt his groin on Sunday and hadnt played until Saturday nights appearance. "Thats a hard thing to do to pinch-hit -- one of the hardest roles in our game to come off the bench without playing and go step in the batters box against pitcher and hit a home run," manager Bud Black said. "That is hard to do and he has done it twice in a week. "When Carlos does that, that is what we expect," Black said. "He is a dynamic offensive player and our team changes." Problem is, the Padres havent seen much of Quentin this year. He missed the first 39 games after starting the season on the disabled list with a bone bruise in his left knee. "He makes us better," Black said. "Hes arguably our best offensive player each and every night he is in the game." Valbuena extended his hitting streak to eight games when he drove an 88 mph fastball from Billy Buckner into the right field seats with one out in the sixth. It was his third. Nate Schierholtz doubled to right with two outs. The Padres intentionally walked Darwin Barney to get to Wood, who singled up the middle to drive in Schierholtz. Valbuena also scored in the fourth, reaching on a walk, advancing on Welington Castillos single and coming in on Schierholtzs base hit. Hector Rondon pitched the ninth for his sixth save in seven chances. Buckner (0-1) started in place of Andrew Cashner, who is on the disabled list with a sore right elbow. Buckners contract was purchased earlier Saturday from Triple-A El Paso. He allowed three runs and six hits in 5 2-3 innings, struck out four and walked three. That was put to rest, at least for now, on Tuesday night when Pacioretty got a natural hat trick in the second period and the Canadiens skated to a 6-2 NHL victory over the Minnesota Wild. Pacioretty picked up his first goals in 10 games since Oct. 12 in Vancouver, although he missed eight games with a leg injury during that stretch. "Theres a lot of things probably being said about me out there -- thats how it is in this business when youre not performing," said Pacioretty, who among other slights, had been criticized for being a "perimeter" player of late. "Everyone goes through it, but it felt good tonight. "You can look at stats all you want but I missed a lot of good opportunities lately. One game I had eight shots. It started getting into my head, thinking that I cant score, so its definitely a monkey off the back. The first one was lucky, off a skate and in, but you take them as they come." Desharnais got two assists, giving him three points in 20 games this season. Only last week, newly elected Montreal mayor Denis Coderre caused a stir when he suggested Desharnais be sent to the minors. He was scratched one game, but bounced back with better efforts of late. When he is on his game, the stocky centre is a clever passer and playmaker, although he only seems ever to click with Pacioretty. Part of the breakthrough came when coach Michel Therrien put tenacious right winger Brendan Gallagher on their unit. That threesome was Montreals best line in the second half of last season. And Pacioretty went hard to the front of the net for two of his goals. "Davy and I, our chemistry is at a level where he knows where Im going and he can throw blind passes, and thats what happened, said Pacioretty. "Gally gets everyone going. "Hes an energetic player. With him getting into the forecheck and disrupting the defence a little, all it takes is a split second. Hes a hound on the puck and he got us going." Michael Bournival, Daniel Briere and Alex Galchenyuk also scored for the Canadiens (11-9-2), who had tallied only 18 goals in their previous 11 games. Nino Niederreiter and Dany Heatley scored for the Wild (13-5-4), which ended a four-game winning streak and an eight-game undefeated run dating to a 5-1 loss to Chicago on Oct. 28. Minnesota looked nothing like the air-tight defensive club that was piling up wins in recent weeks. Once Paciorettys first goal went in, they put up little fight. Top defenceman Ryan Suter ended the niight minus-3, while his partner Jonas Brodin was minus-4.dddddddddddd Coach Mike Yeo wants to see the team push back Wednesday night in Ottawa. "Its all a matter how you take this one in," said Yeo. "If we just sit here and say weve been on a nice run and this was bound to happen, then I dont think we should expect much difference from tonight. "If this stings like it should, it should he motivating for us to win that game." Wild starter Josh Harding, one of the NHLs three stars for his three wins last week, was pulled in the second period after allowing three goals on 19 shots in favour of third-stringer Darcy Kuemper, who looked shaky in allowing three goals on nine shots. Yeo said pulling Harding was partly to keep him fresh to play in Ottawa. Harding has given up three only twice this season, both times to Montreal. At 2:57 of the second period, Paciorettys slump ended when he had a Desharnais pass go in off his skate from in front of the net. The Canadiens, coming off a 1-0 loss at home to the New York Rangers on Saturday night, had not scored since a Lars Eller goal at 7:34 of the second period of a 3-2 shootout win last Friday in Columbus. Pacioretty converted a spin-around pass from Desharnais at 10:06 at even strength and then ended Hardings night when he tipped in P.K. Subbans point shot on a power play at 13:36. Bournival came from behind the net and beat Kuemper inside the near post at 16:16. Briere one-timed Brian Giontas cross-ice pass behind Kuemper on a counter attack 4:42 into the third. Niederreiter spoiled Carey Prices shutout less than a minute later when he went to the net to bang in his own rebound after a feed from behind the net from Kyle Brodziak. Galchenyuk converted an Andrei Markov feed on a power play at 7:35. Then Heatley, a shadow of his former self this season, jammed in a goal on a power play with 1.3 seconds left in the game for only his third goal in 22 games. In his heyday as a 50-goal and 100-point man with the Ottawa Senators, Heatley -- along with Jason Spezza and Daniel Alfredsson -- terrorized the Canadiens. In 43 career games against Montreal, he has 25 goals and 52 points. Notes: Six goals was a season high scored for Montreal and allowed by Minnesota. . . PHILADELPHIA -- The Montreal Canadiens got bigger in Saturdays NHL draft but couldnt resist the allure of five-foot-eight Sherbrooke centre Daniel Audette. Its other five picks were all six foot or better, with three at 6-1 or above. Third-round pick Brett Lernout stands six foot four and weighs 206 pounds. "Hes a big strong strapping defenceman," Trevor Timmins, Montreals director of amateur scouting, said of Lernout. "Hes tough as nails and has a heavy shot." Timmins had talked prior to the draft about the Habs wanting to "get bigger, stronger, faster." "But at the same time if theres a player thats undersized there and hes a good hockey player, then hes hard to pass. Thats the situation here with Daniel -- similar to a Brendan Gallagher in his draft year. You simply cant go by a player with that much ability." Gallagher is five foot nine and 180 pounds but plays much larger. The 175-pound Audette had 21 goals and 55 assists in 68 games last season. Audette, the son of Habs amateur scout and former NHLer Donald Audette, went in the fifth round. Timmins said Audette Sr. had not been involved in any of the pre-draft discussion on his son. In fact, Donald was told to spend the afternoon in the stands with his wife and son until Daniel got drafted. Donald collected 260 goals and 249 assists 735 career NHL games with the Buffalo Sabres, Los Angeles Kings, Atlanta Thrashers, Dallas Stars, Montreal and Florida Panthers. The Canadiens traded up to get Lernout, a Swift Current defenceman. They gave up their third-round pick (87th overall) and fourth-round pick (117th overall) to get Arizonas third-rounder (73rd overall). "I looked at the team picking in front of us and I thought there was a good chance that he wouldnt be there (by Montreals pick) ... We wanted to add some size on defence and he was a good fit for us there," said Timmins. Montreal took AJHL defenceman Nikolas Koberstein (125th overall) and Audette (147th overall) in the fifth round, USHL goalie Hayden Hawkey (177th overall) in the sixth round and Ontario Junior Hockey League forward Jake Evans (207th overall) in the seventh round. Montreal used its first-round pick Friday to take Russian forward Nikita Scherbak of the Saskatoon Blades 26th overall. Thanks to reaching the Eastern Conference final, the Canadiens draft position was well down this year. "If you take a look at our picks in every round, theyre pretty late. So the asset value of the picks we had wasnt near as high as last year or the year before," Timmins said. "Thats why we had to make that trade in the third (round) to move up. "We had to wait out turn pretty long in each round. Ill tell you (how we did) a few years down the road. But were happy with the guys we got. Theyre the guys we targeted and we still had guys left on the list that we wanted to draft." The Habs went "under the radar" on Koberstein, according to their scouting director. "I think this guy has good upside and long-range projection," he said. "Hes a great kid and has tons of character but hes a good hockey player too." Koberstein is committed to play at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks after one more year with the Olds Grizzlys of the Alberta Junior Hockey League. Timmins sees him as a five-year player, meaning he has one year at Junior A and four at college. Hawkey, USHL goalie of the year, is committed to play collegiate hockey at Providence. "Hes like money in the bank," said Timmins. Evans is headed to Notre Dame. "Hes a skilled centre with great playmaking ability," said Timmins. Discount Detroit Lions Jerseys . FC Twente say they will fight any attempts to relegate them to the second tier of Dutch football in a dispute over financial irregularities. The countrys football association (KNVB) revoked the clubs Eredivisie licence on Wednesday for repeatedly and deliberately misleading football authorities and other clubs about their finances.Given the clubs efforts to rectify their errors, the KNVB are poised to issue a new licence but only for the Jupiler League. Twente issued a statement announcing they plan to oppose such moves as they seek to preserve their top-flight status held since 1984. Twente were Dutch champions six years ago but could now drop out of the top flight Club spokesman Jan Schutrups said: FC Twente cannot bear the financial consequences of this sanction.A atatement added: (We have) identified elements enabling (us) to contest the proposed definitive revocation of (our) licence to play in the Eredivisie - and thats what well do.The controversy stems from 2013 when the former FC Twente administration concluded contracts with investment company Doyen Sports. The KNVB said that breached transfer market rules. The side from Enschede have been punished for breaching third-party ownership rules In December, Twente were fined 200,000 euros and banned from Europe for three years. They were also docked three points in the league season. Also See: Eredivisie fixtures Eredivisie table Get Sky Sports Trent Murphy Jersey . Parmelee hit a game-ending shot in the ninth inning and the Minnesota Twins overcame David Ortizs big night to beat the Boston Red Sox 8-6 on Tuesday.(SportsNetwork.com) - The Detroit Red Wings aim to match their longest winning streak of the season and grab sole possession of second place in the Atlantic Division on Sunday night when they take on the skidding Buffalo Sabres. The Red Wings have won three straight and five of their last six games, putting them in a tie with the Montreal Canadiens in the division with 59 points. Tampa Bay is leading the Atlantic with 62 points and is idle on Sunday along with the Habs. Detroit, meanwhile, plays for a second night in a row after topping the Nashville Predators 5-2 on Saturday. Tomas Tatar had two goals -- giving him a career high 20 on the season -- and an assist to pace the rout. Gustav Nyquist tallied a goal and an assist, Henrik Zetterberg and Kyle Quincey each scored and Pavel Datsyuk, Riley Sheahan and Niklas Kronwall each had two assists. Detroit scored just 57 seconds in as part of a three-goal first period and got 34 saves by netminder Petr Mrazek. I thought the guys got off to a good start, Detroit head coach Mike Babcock said. Then (Mrazek) was big and square. The Red Wings won a season-high four in a row from Nov. 24-30 and could go with Mrazek again tonight with No. 1 Jimmy Howard out with a groin injury. Mrazek has never faced the Sabres.dddddddddddd Detroit is a good bet to match its season-high win streak given it has won two straight, 10 of 11 and 20 of its past 24 versus Buffalo. That includes six in a row at home, with the Sabres having not won in Motown since Oct. 13, 2006. These current Sabres dont appear likely to reverse that trend as they come in having lost a franchise-record 10 straight in regulation. Last nights 4-3 setback to the Philadelphia Flyers made Buffalo the first team to lose 10 in a row in regulation since the Pittsburgh Penguins from Jan. 6-23, 2006. Zemgus Girgensons snapped an eight-game pointless streak with a pair of goals, while Tyler Ennis scored and Chris Stewart posted two assists. If you dont go to the net, if you dont carry the puck and you dont fight your way in their, youre not going to have a chance, Sabres coach Ted Nolan said. Michal Neuvirth allowed all four Philadelphia scores on 32 shots. Buffalo has not won since Dec. 27 at home versus the New York Islanders and is tied with Edmonton for the fewest points in the NHL with 31. The Sabres also have lost 10 straight on the road since a victory in Montreal on Nov. 29. They kick off a five-game swing tonight. LOS ANGELES -- Kevin Durant scored 36 points, Russell Westbrook added 23 and the Oklahoma City Thunder outplayed the Los Angeles Clippers in the fourth quarter for a 118-112 victory Friday night and a 2-1 lead in their Western Conference semifinal. Serge Ibaka added 20 points and Westbrook had 13 assists for the Thunder in a game that neither team ever led by double digits. Blake Griffin scored 34 points, and Chris Paul added 21 points and 16 assists for the Clippers, who saw their four-point lead disappear for good early in the fourth quarter. Sixth Man of the Year Jamal Crawford added 20 points. Oklahoma City led 113-107 on Durants turnaround jumper with 1:23 left. It followed Westbrooks 3-pointer after the Clippers had closed within 108-107 when Griffin muscled in for a layup. Game 4 is Sunday at Staples Center. The Thunder shot 56 per cent, and controlled the paint and fastbreak points against a Clippers team that never got into their favoured run-and-gun mode. J.J. Redick, who got off to a hot start in Game 2, was held to five points on 1-of-6 shooting. DeAndre Jordan was never a factor for the Clippers either, with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Matt Barnes gave them a lift with 14 points. The Thunder gradually pulled away in the fourth, scoring eight straight points, including Durants three-point play, to take the lead for good. Former Clipper Caron Butler hit three 3-pointers to give his team the lead and then extend it. Emotions boiled in the third, with double technicals called on Barnes and Kendrick Perkins, who stared hard at each other. Perkins took a step toward Barnes but got pushed away by Westbrook. By then, Griffin was already bloodied. He got hit in the face by Ibaka, but the only call by the referees was 3 seconds on the Clippers. Griffin held a towel to his gushing nose and changed his jersey during a timeout. The Clippers rallied at the end of the period, outscoring the Thunder 8-0 to take a 90-86 lead. They did it on free throws except for Griffins basket. Reggie Jackson was called for a foul and a technical, and then Durant fouled Crawford on a 3-point attempt with less than a second left. He made all three. Neither team led by more than seven points in the first half, when the lead changed hands 14 times and there were seven ties. Ibaka had three fouls and Thabo Sefolosha two for the Thunder. NOTES: Shelly Sterling, the estranged wife of banned Clippers owner Donald Sterling, attended the game. A person with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press that the Timberwolves will receive Philadelphia 76ers power forward Thaddeus Young as part of the deal that will send Love to the Cleveland Cavaliers. The person requested anonymity because an official announcement has not been made. The Wolves agreed weeks ago to send Love to Cleveland, where he will team up with LeBron James and Kyrie Irving to make the Cavaliers an instant favourite in the Eastern Conference. The Cavs agreed to send No. 1 overall draft pick Andrew Wiggins, former No. 1 pick Anthony Bennett and a 2015 No. 1 draft choice they obtained from Miami to Minnesota to land Love, but Wolves President Flip Saunders and GM Milt Newton immediately went to work to try to get the 76ers involved in the deal as well. The Wolves have wanted the 26-year-old Young to help them replace Love in the starting lineup, and the teams came to agreement on Thursday to make that happen. Young averaged a career-high 17.9 points last season and gives the Wolves another athletic player to put around point guard Ricky Rubio.dddddddddddd He also gives the young team another veteran presence in the locker room. Young had two years and more than $19 million left on his contract, but he can become a free agent after next season if he chooses. The rebuilding Sixers will get guard Alexey Shved and forward Luc Mbah a Moute from the Timberwolves and Miamis No. 1 pick next year from the Cavaliers in the deal, which will not be officially announced until Saturday when Wiggins becomes eligible to be traded. A seldom-used NBA rule prevents any rookie from being traded for 30 days after he signs his rookie contract. Shved and Mbah a Moute are entering the final year of their contracts, which gives the 76ers sought after financial flexibility going forward as GM Sam Hinkie continues to gut the roster in an effort to build a long-term winner over the next five years. Mbah a Moute also has a close relationship with Sixers rookie Joel Embiid and could provide a nice mentor for the young big man while he sits out the season because of a foot injury. The Timberwolves were expected to introduce Young, Wiggins and Bennett on Tuesday at the Minnesota State Fair. BERLIN -- Eintracht Braunschweig grabbed a lifeline in its fight against Bundesliga relegation with a 3-0 win over rival Hannover in the Lower Saxony derby on Sunday. "They were three very important points from a game of high emotions," Braunschweig coach Thorsten Lieberknecht said. "Weve shown that we want to hang on like limpets (in the Bundesliga)." Domi Kumbela got the home side off to a good start in the 14th, scoring after Hannover goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler could only parry Ken Reichels cross to his feet. Havard Nielsen made it 2-0 with a fine finish inside the far post in the 21st, and Hannovers fate was effectively sealed when Andre Hoffmann was sent off for kicking Mirko Boland from behind in the 62nd. Hannover supporters responded by calling for the clubs management to step down. Hannover president Martin Kind had already described his sides performance as "unacceptable" during the halftime break. Jan Hochscheidt completed an afternoon to forget for the visiting fans by scoring in the 89th, after Orhan Ademi eluded two defenders and Karim Bellarabi laid the ball back. Braunschweig is still bottom but within touching distance of Nuremberg, Hamburger SV and Stuttgart with five games of the season remaining. "Weve simply found our way," Lieberknecht said after his sides fifth consecutive home game without defeat. "Were last, weve made up a bit on the others, but nothing more." Hannover is just two points clear of Stuttgart after four consecutive defeats with the clubs management under pressure following the decision to release Mirko Slomka as coach in December. Slomka returns with current club Hamburg next week. Sundays late game, a 1-1 draw between mid-table sides Hertha Berlin and Hoffenheim, was overshadowed by a serious injury to Hoffenheim goalkeeper Koen Casteels. The Belgium youth team keeper was stretchered off in obvious pain midway through the second half after landing badly in a challenge with Adrian Ramos for a high ball. "It looks like its a lower leg fracture," Hoffenheim coach Markus Gisdol said. Sami Allagui opened the scoring for Hertha in the 11th, when he eluded Jannik Vestergaard with a clever trick and then curled the ball beyond Casteels. Sloppy defending allowed Kevin Volland set up Eugen Polanski for Hoffenheims equalizer on the half hour. Following Casteels injury, substitute goalkeeper Alexander Stolz made two crucial interventions in the final minutes, before his counterpart, Thomas Kraft, produced a stunning save to deny Volland from a free kick with the last kick of the game. "We deserved the victory," said Kraft, who prevented what would have been Herthas fifth loss in a row. "My game is getting there," said Murray, the No. 6 seed, who acknowledged he was dealing with a sore back. "The last six sets Ive played, very high-level tennis, very few errors." Hell need to keep it that way against Djokovic, who eased past Tommy Robredo 6-3, 7-5. The second-seeded Djokovic even gave back a point in the second set. A groundstroke from Robredo clipped the baseline and Djokovic couldnt handle it, but the ball was erroneously called out. After a review showed the ball was in, the point was ordered to be replayed. Djokovic shouted "Its OK, its OK" as the fans applauded his sportsmanship. "For me, its something that is part of the sport, fair play," Djokovic said. "I expect everybody else to do the same. Of course, not everybodys the same, but for me, thats something thats normal. Just a normal, natural reaction." Top-seeded Rafael Nadal downed 14th-seeded Fabio Fognini 6-2, 6-2. Nadal has dropped a total of nine games in six sets so far in this tournament. Singles players with a combined 66 Grand Slam victories were in action Tuesday, including Roger Federer — a winner of 17 of them himself. And he looked very much like the Federer of old, needing only 49 minutes to beat ninth-seeded Richard Gasquet 6-1, 6-2. "Look, things went well out on the court today," Federer said, clearly understating matters. Federer, the No. 5 seed, had 25 winners to Gasquets eight, converted five of his six break chances and won 92 per cent of his first-serve points in the second set. Next up for Federer is 20th-seeded Kei Nishikori, who upset No. 4 David Ferrer 7-6 (7), 2-6, 7-6 (9)..dddddddddddd. Ferrer had beaten Nishikori in the same round at Key Biscayne a year ago, their most recent meeting before Tuesday. No. 22 Alexandr Dolgopolov of the Ukraine also pulled off an upset, topping third-seeded Stanislas Wawrinka 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 to reach the quarterfinals. The last American in the mens draw was ousted when 10th-seeded John Isner lost to No. 7 seed Tomas Berdych 6-3, 7-5. On the womens side, Maria Sharapova rallied from a break down in the first set to oust Petra Kvitova 7-5, 6-1 and earn a spot in the semifinals. Shes been a finalist at Key Biscayne five times, but never the champion. "I love the energy here," she said. The fourth-seeded Sharapova, who needed three-setters to get through her two most recent matches at Key Biscayne, feasted on 30 unforced errors by the eighth-seeded Kvitova. Sharapova won 11 of the final 13 games and moved into a semifinal matchup with Serena Williams, the defending champion who won 62 of 100 points in her 6-2, 6-2 romp over fifth-seeded Angelique Kerber. Williams broke Kerber twice in each set, faced only one break point and held a more than 2-to-1 advantage in winners. "When youre playing champions, you like to play your best," Williams said. "She always gives me her best. ... I love playing her. I really do. It doesnt matter what surface. Shes one of my favourite people to play." Sharapova said she was eager to face Williams again. "Its no secret that shes been a big challenge of mine, an opponent that obviously I would love to beat," Sharapova said. Also, former No. 1 Martina Hingis teamed with Sabine Lisicki to reach the doubles quarterfinals. Boston, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - LaMarcus Aldridge scored 20 points and pulled down 14 rebounds as Portland edged the Celtics 94-88 on Sunday. The Trail Blazers were behind at the half but got hot from the field later in the game and finally erased a Boston lead that persisted through the entire first half. Portland got great contributions from its bench, led by veterans Chris Kaman and Steve Blake. Kaman scored 16 points and grabbed eight boards in 17 minutes, and Blake chipped in 11 on 5-of-8 shooting from the floor. They both have had some very good games for us, said Portland head coach Terry Stotts. I think its typical of what theyve given us. Steve is very consistent defensively ... Chris is very consistent, hes been consistent all season as far as scoring and rebounding off the bench. Jared Sullinger and Jeff Green tied for the Celtics lead with 19 points apiece. Rajon Rondo ran the Boston offensive effectively with 13 points on nine shots and a game-high eight assists. Avery Bradley also scored 13 despite shooting just 1-of-8 from beyond the arc. Damian Lillard scored 12 points and finished with a career-high nine rebounds. The Celtics got off to an early lead thanks to great work on the offensive glass. They led 7-0 just a minute and a half into the game thanks to two offensive rebounds and five points from Sullinger. Portland was unable to hit a shot from the field until the 7:16 mark of the quarter when Robin Lopez tipped in a missed layup to cut Bostons lead to 9-4. Portlands 6-0 run in the final two minutes of the quarter left them with a 23-21 deficit after one. Boston led by as much as 10 points in the first half. Commenting on his teams defense, Celtics coach Brad Stevens said, As we enter a five-day stretch before we play two more contenders, we have something to build off of. Despite six third quarter turnovers, Portland was able to erase Bostons 49-44 halftime lead four and a half minutes into a third period that saw both teams shoot a high percentage. The Trail Blazers grabbed their first lead on an Aldridge layup at 7:35. Aldridge scored Portlands first four points of the quarter and capped off the 15-8 run that gave them that lead. On his star forward, Portland coach Terry Stotts said, He fought through some adversity offensively because he had shots at the rim that werent falling, and I thought tonight was as much of a mental toughness game for him as a physical toughness game. The two teams traded the lead throughout the rest of the period with neither leading by more than three. Blakes jumper with 34 seconds left tied the game at 72 heading into the fourth. It looked like Portland was poised to take over the game in the fourth with a 10-0 run to start, highlighted by 3s from Wesley Matthews and Lillard. The Celtics fought and stayed in the game though. With less than five minutes to go, Aldridge scored his 20th point by sinking a pair of free throws to extend Portlands lead to 12, but Boston went on an 11-3 run to make it a 92-88 game with 1:30 to play. Bradley and Sullinger hit back-to-back 3s to cap that run. That would be the last shot the Celtics would make though, as they missed their last three shots from the field. Matthews dunk with 11 seconds left sealed the game. Game Notes Portland has won four straight games against Boston ... Boston is now riding a four-game home losing streak ... SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Spurs didnt dwell on nearly blowing a 24-point lead in the second half. They won, and thats all that mattered to the veteran club. Tim Duncan had 29 points, 13 rebounds and five assists, and San Antonio overcame a fourth-quarter collapse to beat the Denver Nuggets 108-103 Wednesday night for its 15th straight victory. Tiago Splitter, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili had 10 points apiece for the Spurs (55-16), who have the leagues best record. "They made it competitive," Parker said. "They played with a lot of energy. We missed a lot of little stuff; easy layups that we always make and they got back in the game. It happens sometimes. Were not going to beat everybody by 20." It just seemed like they were after overwhelming the Nuggets in the first half. Danny Greens 3-pointer at the buzzer was his fifth of the half, giving San Antonio its largest lead of opening 24 minutes at 63-43. Green scored 16 points, all in the first half, before leaving with a foot injury early in the second. His status is unknown, but he wore a walking boot as a precaution after the game and will have an MRI on Thursday morning. "All of a sudden he couldnt walk," San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich said. "The bottom of the foot, there is something. They are going to X-ray it. I am just guessing it is plantar fasciitis or something like that." San Antonio had 19 assists while going 24 for 42 from the field and forcing nine turnovers in the first half. "We were getting embarrassed in the first half," Denver forward Darrell Arthur said. "I was upset. I had words with some of the guys in the locker room." Aaron Brooks scored 25 points and Kenneth Faried had 24 points, including 15 points in a frenzied final quarter for the Nuggets. Denver went on a 34-20 run in the final 11 minutes. "We played a good half, we played a bad half," Popovich said. "The NBA is a 48-minute game and youve got to keep playing." After leading by as many as 24 points and by 20 midway through the third quarter, San Antonio needed Duncans late heroics to preserve its win streak. Duncan scored all but one of the Spurs final 11 points, capping his performance with an off-balance jumper off the glass for a 107-99 lead with 30 seconds remaining. The heavily contested shot sealed the win and led Nuggets coach Brian Shaw to turn and smile at Popovich, who shook his head as well. "(Duncan) played a great all-around game," Popovich said. "Probably nobody noticed, but it was assists, boards, scoring — he was the guy that kept it together." Duncan finished the game 12 for 20, including going 4 for 5 in the final five minutes on a series of layups and jumpers. It seemed like it was going to be an early night for Duncan and San Antonios veterans after the team rolled to a sizeable early lead. The Nuggets opened at a frenetic pace and the Spurs were more than willing to play along. The teams combined for 24 shots in the opening six minutes. Green and Kawhi Leonard benefited the most from the fast start, going a combined 4 for 5 on 3-pointers. Leonard got the Spurs started by swatting Farieds jumper from behind off the opening tip and then hitting a 3-pointer and 19-footer to give San Antonio a 7-4 lead. Green then hit three consecutive 3-pointers to extend the advantage to 16-10 with 8 minutes remaining in the first quarter. Green ended the run by draining a closely contested 3 on Randy Foye after screaming for the ball as Duncan brought it up court off a rebound. "We fell asleep," Brooks said. "They got a lot of backdoors in the first half. We fell asleep on a lot of plays and allowed them to run their offence, and I think in the second half we pressured a little bit more." NOTES: Spurs F Austin Daye has become an overnight fan favourite, receiving an ovation second only to Ginobilis upon entering with 29.5 seconds remaining in the first quarter. Alex Hales Test-best 94 boosted Englands hopes of whitewashing Sri Lanka on a weather-affected day four of the third Investec Test at Lords. Hales fell narrowly short of a maiden ton for the third time in the series having been dismissed for 86 his sides innings and 88-run win at Headingley and 83 in their nine-wicket victory at Emirates Riverside in Durham. But the openers fourth Test half-century and Alastair Cooks 49 not out from an unfamiliar No 7 spot led to England declaring on 233-7 with a lead of 361 after rain had washed out the entire morning session.Dimuth Karunaratne (19no) and Kaushal Silva (12no) negotiated a potentially tricky 12 overs, though, as Sri Lanka closed on 32-0 and with further showers forecast for Monday, England could struggle to complete their fourth whitewash since 1978, having thumped India 4-0 in 2011 and crushed New Zealand 3-0 and West Indies 4-0 in 2004. Alex Hales was unable to complete his maiden Test ton The Lords drizzle, however, gave Cook extra time to rest the knee he bruised while fielding at silly mid-off on day three and the England skipper displayed no signs of discomfort when he joined Hales at the crease following the early-afternoon lbw exit of night-watchman Steve Finn (7).Cooks only trouble came against spinner Rangana Herath, the left-hander successfully reviewing one lbw decision with the ball striking him outside the line but then fortunate that opposing captain Angelo Mathews opted not to go upstairs with Heraths delivery set to turn back onto his stumps.Hales also enjoyed a slice of luck when Nuwan Pradeep (3-37) was adjudged to have bowled him with a no ball, despite replays showing the Sri Lanka paceman - who castled Joe Root, James Vince and Jonny Bairstow on day three - had kept a part of his foot behind the line. Nuwan Pradeep was harshly adjudged to have bowled a no ball The Nottinghamshire star built on his overnight 41 with a host of sweet strokes, including smoking Herath for six over long-on, as he bossed an 82-run stand with regular opening partner Cook. But, with tea approaching, Hales was given out lbw to Mathews after being clattered above the knee roll, ball-tracking technology showing Hales leg stump would have been shaved. Alastair Cook unleased a scoop shot at Lords Cook and Moeen Ali (9) darted in and out of the dressing room after tea as rain fell in a start-stop manner and the cricket was just as frenetic in the moments before England declared - Moeen pouched in the deep off Shaminda Eranga (3-58), and Cook spanking a maximum over midwicket and attempting a Jos Buttler-esque scoop. Karunaratne and Silva, though, calmed things down during the final overs to keep Sri Lanka in with a chance, however faint, of launching a successful run chase an on intriguing-looking Monday in the capital. Our build-up to day five starts at 10.30am on Monday on Sky Sports 2, while you can also follow the days play on skysports.com and Sky Sports apps via our rolling over-by-over blog.Highlights of day three come your way from 8pm tonight on Sky Sports 2 and then stick around at 9pm for The Verdict with Charles Colvile, Bob Willis, Jonathan Trott and Russel Arnold. MINNEAPOLIS - Hours before Phoenix completed its biggest comeback of the season, coach Jeff Hornacek said the Suns needed to approach each remaining game as their last if they wanted to make the playoffs. The Suns played more desperately than Minnesota on Sunday and inched closer to the Western Conferences final playoff spot. They also delivered a serious blow to the Timberwolves fading post-season hopes. Markieff Morris scored 25 points as the Suns overcame a 22-point deficit and a near triple-double by Kevin Love to beat the Wolves 127-120 and move within a half game of eighth-place Memphis. "Weve had a few of those, havent we?" Hornacek said. "Im always proud of the way they come back at the end of games, they never give up. We were playing horribly for a half, maybe partway into the third quarter and somehow they ended up pulling that game out." While Hornacek lamented his teams tendencies to start slow, the Suns were fortunate the Wolves — who fell six games behind Phoenix — have a habit of starting strong before fading. Now the Suns are hoping the Wolves psyche can recover in time to put up big points again when they play at Memphis on Monday. Phoenix, meanwhile, continues its road trip in Atlanta. "If we want to be contenders and be in the playoffs, we got to start showing it by winning these kind of games," P.J. Tucker said. "We came out and played in the second half." Phoenixs bench outscored Minnesotas 61-20, and the Suns shot a season-high 57 per cent from the floor to overcome Loves 36 points and 14 rebounds. The Wolves All-Star forward fell an assist short of a triple double and committed a crucial turnover in the final minute. With the game tied at 118, Love lost the ball in the paint and Eric Bledsoe made a fast-break layup. Gerald Green, Bledsoe and Tucker each hit a pair of free throws in the closing seconds. "If we start out the game like that wed probably be up 20," Bledsoe said. The Suns tied a season high by allowing 41 points in the first quarter and trailed 103-93 heading in the final period, but they outscored the Wolves 34-17 in the fourth. Minnesota, meanwhile, blew its largest lead of the season. "That was our playoffs right there, and we lost. So this one hurts a lot more than the others," a visibly frustrated Love said. The Wolves scored a season-high 73 first-half points — they needed every one of them because the Suns shot 61 per cent and still found themselves trailing by 11 at halftime. Minnesota built its early lead thanks to a 14-0 first-quarter run fueled by a balanced offence. Every Wolves player who checked in scored. But Morris shot Phoenix back into the game with 15 points in the second quarter on 6 for 8 shooting. "We shouldve won that game, plain and simple," Love said. Phoenix has won five of its last six. Bledsoe had 21 points for the Suns, Tucker had 19 and Goran Dragic 18. The Suns won for only the fifth time when trailing after three quarters. "Im so tired of doing that," Tucker said. "We get 20-25 down and its like, lets play. Its unreal." Notes: Kevin Martin had 25 points for the Wolves. . The officials hit Phoenix with four technical fouls, including one on assistant coach Mike Longabardi. . Crews scrambled to prepare the court after Target Center hosted the National Collegiate Hockey Conference championship game Saturday night. They didnt have enough time to remove the ice, so they constructed the court above it for Sundays game. . Wolves G J.J. (SportsNetwork.com) - The two afterthoughts in the NFC North, Minnesota and Chicago, will finish their seasons in a battle to avoid the cellar of the division. The Vikings can at least hang their hat on the development of rookie quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, who has had an impressive 105.7 passer rating over his past four starts. The embattled Jay Cutler, meanwhile, will be back under center for the Bears after a concussion ended Jimmy Clausens one-game tenure at the helm. Cutlers future in Chicago remains murky as does the fates of general manager Phil Emery and head coach Marc Trestman as the Bears missed the postseason for the seventh time in eight years. Jay gives us the best chance this week, Trestman said. Thats why hell be out there. I believe that Jay can work his way out of this. And Ive enjoyed coaching him and working with him. And we had dialogue last week. And we worked together last week. It was a tough week on him. I empathize with him on that. But were moving forward. Both teams are coming off losses in Week 16 with Minnesota inventing a new way to come up empty in South Florida when Terrence Fede blocked Jeff Lockes punt out of the end zone for a safety with 41 seconds left, lifting the Dolphins to a 37-35 win. The blocked punt, a direct result of Vikings long snapper Cullen Loeffler decision to deliver a ground ball back to Locke, came after Damien Williams 3-yard TD catch tied the game for the Dolphins. The fourth quarter featured a combined 41 points between the two non-playoff participants. Bridgewater connected on 19-of-26 passes for 259 yards, two touchdowns and an interception for the Vikings, who have lost two in a row and will finish under .500 in Mike Zimmers first year as the teams head coach. Matt Asiata carried the ball 16 times for 58 yards and two touchdowns. Greg Jennings caught three passes for 56 yards and a score but Minnesotas defense allowed a season-worst 493 yards of total offense. One of the worst defensive performances Ive seen in a long time, said Zimmer. All of the things Ive been trying to preach for 11 months, we didnt do. The Bears, meanwhile, fell to Detroit, 20-14, when Joique Bells touchdown run in the fourth quarter proved to be the difference. Clausen played admirably in the start in favor of the benched Cutler. The former Notre Dame star finished the game 23-for-39 for 181 yards and a pair of touchdown passes along with an interception for the Bears, who have lost their past four games. Matt Forte rushed for 55 yards on 19 carries, and added six catches for 40 yards. I just went out there and competed, thats the biggest thing that I think I did, said Clausen. I showed that I could compete in this league. But its not about me or what I do, its about winning football games and thats what we wanted to do. We just came up a little short. Clausen, however, was diagnosed with a concussion after experiencing delayed symptoms on Sunday night and has been ruled out of the season finale. He suffered the concussion on Chicagos final offensive possession when Lions defensive end Ezekiel Ansah made helmet-to-helmet contact with him as the quarterback slid at the end of a short scramble. The Bears said Clausen didnt exhibit symptoms after the hit or following the game. He contacted trainers after experiencing delayed symptoms later Sunday night and was taken to a hospital, where he was diagnosed with a concussion. The Vikings lead their all-time series with the Bears by a 54-51-2 margin but have dropped two of three, including a 21-13 setback in Chicago on Nov. 16 when Cutler passed for 330 yards and three TDs. The Vikes have won nine of the last 12 played in Minneapolis, however. WHAT TO WATCH FOR Confidence is a funny thing. Despite all his troubles and there have been plenty, Cutler almost always plays well against Minnesota, winning seven of his past eight starts against the Vikings with 20 TD passes in those games. The problem is he cant play the Vikings for all 16 games and Cutler leads the NFL with 18 interceptions and 24 turnovers overall, yet he is owed over $15 million next season after signing a big-money extension in January. That contract and his hiring of Trestman has put Emery in the cross hairs with Black Monday looming. Some think the talented Cutler has been treated unfairly, though, and there is clearly a divide in the locker room, which also could contribute to Trestmans ultimate fate. I feel really bad for Jay, injured kicker Robbie Gould told a Chicago-area radio station this week. When youre having a tough season like this, hes not the guy to be the scapegoat. Theres a lot of guys you can put that blame on. One of those is the offensive-minded Trestman, who is 13-18 as the head coach since replacing Lovie Smith in 2013. Trestman did indeed improve Chicagos offense last season when Chicago averaged 27.8 points per game, second in the NFL, but that has dipped to 20.7 points this time around. The defense, meanwhile, has been a disaster in both seasons under Trestman and defensive coordinator Mel Tucker is all but out the door. The Bears have been outscored by almost two touchdowns (13.0 ppg) during their current four-game losing streak, the franchises longest since a five-game hiccup in 2011. Zimmers first season in Minnesota has been hampered by injuries and off- the-field issues with what turned out to be an almost year-long suspension to star running back Adrian Peterson for child abuse, a development that essentially doomed the campaign. Bridgewater, the 32nd overall pick in the 2014 draft, has been a bright spot, really amping up his game over the past month or so. The University of Louisville product has found the end zone at least twice in four of his last five games and the Vikings offense has averaged over 26 points a game over that stretch. Its pretty incredible to me what hes done, Minnesota offensive coordinator Norv Turner said. How he has handled (the adversity), the things hes gotten done and what hes really done is made everyone around him better and thats a quality that youre looking for (in a quarterback). Hes very calm all the time, Zimmer added. Hes very even-tempered. Im trying to think if Ive ever seen him upset that you can visually see, and I have not seen it. The Vikings defense has a very difficult time handling the flats in general without standout rookie linebacker Anthony Barr, who is done of the season with a knee injury. The group then imploded against Miami last weekend when veteran linebacker Chad Greenway went down with a knee injury. Greenway hasnt been able to practice this week so keep an eye on Forte, who is fourth in the NFL with 118.1 yards from scrimmage per game. The game also marks the return of veteran defensive end Jared Allen to Minnesota, where he spent the previous six years before signing with Chicago as a free agent. OVERALL ANALYSIS Expect the Vikings to close out the first of their two years at TCF Bank Stadium with a field-goal win in what could be the swan song for the trio of Emery, Trestman and Cutler in Chicago. Its important for this football team that we go out and we play good, we play smart, we win because I appreciate all of the effort and focus and everything that this team has done since Ive walked in here, Zimmer said. Its good. To me, its more about reaping the benefits of the things that weve tried to do throughout the course of the year. CINCINNATI - Andy Dalton looked over the spread-out Ravens defence and decided there was enough room for a quarterback sneak. With a push from his linemen, he surged into end zone for a last-minute win.Surged the Bengals back into first place, too.Dalton made up for his two fourth-quarter turnovers by scoring on a 1-yard sneak with 57 seconds left on Sunday, rallying Cincinnati to a 27-24 victory over Baltimore that changed the AFC Norths pecking order. After three very bad weeks, the Bengals (4-2-1) were back atop the tightly bunched division. That was a cool moment, a cool experience and exactly what we had to have in that situation, said Dalton, who scored Cincinnatis first and last touchdowns on 1-yard sneaks. It was especially satisfying for Dalton, who had a fumble and an interception in the fourth quarter that let an 11-point lead slip away. The Ravens (5-3) took advantage and pulled ahead 24-20 with 3:59 to go.Dalton pulled it out with a 10-play, 80-yard drive against the NFLs stingiest defence. He was like, Were good, weve got this, receiver Mohamed Sanu said.Dalton threw a 53-yard pass to Sanu on third-and-10 — safety Terrence Brooks got turned around and couldnt make a play on the ball — to get Cincinnati in range.Dalton was 3 of 5 for 62 yards on the drive, converting a pair of third downs. On the fourth-down play from just beyond the 1-yard line, Dalton had the option of taking it himself. The Bengals sent three receivers to the right, and he figured the sneak would work. His linemen gave him the final push over the goal line. They could have called forward progress stopped, yes they could have, Ravens coach John Harbaugh said.It was the first touchdown that the Ravens had allowed in the final 2 minutes of a game this season. The 24 points were the most they have allowed overall. The Bengals had to wait out a few scary moments before celebrating.Joe Flacco eluded the rush and lofted a pass to Steve Smith, who went 80 yards for an apparent touchdown with 32 seconds left. Smith was called for pushing off on George Iloka to get open, nullifying the play. That was pass interference two years ago, it was pass interference last year, its pass interference this year, and it will be pass interference for the next two years, Iloka said. I knew it right away. With that, the Bengals had their first series sweep of the Ravens since 2009. They won the season opener 23-16 in Baltimore on A.J. Sanu filled in and had two big plays while finishing with five catches for a career-high 125 yards.Sanu also made a one-handed catch for a 48-yard pass play on Cincinnatis game-opening drive, which ended with a 1-yard sneak by Dalton. He was 21 of 28 for 266 yards with an interception, a fumble and two sacks. Those turnovers helped Baltimore take its first lead. Haloti Ngata forced a fumble by Dalton that Daryl Smith returned to the 8-yard line, and Lorenzo Taliaferros second touchdown run put the Ravens up 21-20.C.J. Mosley intercepted Daltons tipped pass, setting up Justin Tuckers 53-yard field goal with 3:59 to go. Just like in the opener, the Ravens defence couldnt hold onto a late lead.Flacco was 17 of 34 for 195 yards with two interceptions and a sack. The Ravens dominated the first half against a struggling defence — Cincinnati had allowed more than 500 yards in two of its past three games — but couldnt get touchdowns out of long drives.Baltimore had the ball for 18 plays on its first drive, but Flaccos incompletion on fourth down from the 1-yard line made the Ravens come up empty. It was the longest drive without points in franchise history.Notes: Ravens WR Torrey Smith ran into a cluster of players in the second half and was tested for a concussion, but returned. The Texas Rangers announced Sunday that Darvish will not start as scheduled Wednesday at Houston. The right-hander from Japan will instead pitch the series opener at home Friday against Toronto in place of lefty Martin Perez, who reported discomfort in his left elbow after not making it out of the fourth inning Saturday night in his third consecutive bad start. "I dont know because I dont know the particulars," manager Ron Washington responded when about his level of concern on Perez. "Weve just got to wait and see what the evaluation proves out." Perez allowed six runs and 14 runners (nine hits, four walks and a hit batter) in 3 2-3 innings of an 8-3 loss to Boston. Since the end of his 26-inning scoreless streak over three games, Perez (4-3) has given up 19 runs over 13 1-3 innings in his past three games, raising his ERA from 1.42 to 4.38. Perez will stay in Arlington for MRI and treatment instead of going with the team to Houston. The pitcher said he has never had elbow trouble in the past. "Im not nervous. I want to keep working and get in a good situation," Perez said after the Rangers 5-2 loss to Boston on Sunday. "I want to make sure everything is good. Its day to day." Darvish came within one out of a no-hitter Friday night in the sseries opener against the Red Sox before slugger David Ortiz grounded a clean single with two outs in the ninth on the aces 126th and final pitch.dddddddddddd That was just short of his career high of 130 pitches. Nick Tepesch was scratched from his scheduled start Sunday for Triple-A Round Rock, and is slated to pitch for Texas on Wednesday in Darvishs spot before the Rangers have a scheduled day off Thursday. Tepesch was 4-6 in 19 games (17 starts) as a rookie last year for the Rangers, but has spent this season at Round Rock. The right-hander is 5-1 with a 1.58 ERA in seven starts for the Express. Right-hander Scott Baker and infielder Josh Wilson both cleared outright waivers after being designated for assignment Thursday. Baker, who pitched 5 1-3 innings in relief in his Rangers debut Wednesday, accepted an assignment to Triple-A Round Rock. The Rangers were still waiting for a decision from Wilson, who can refuse the move. The extra rest for Darvish could also be good news for the Astros. Darvish was within one out of a perfect game during his first start of 2013 in Houston when Marwin Gonzalez singled through the pitchers legs. Darvish then lost a no-hit bid with one out in the eighth inning against the Astros last August. Last month in Arlington, Darvish retired the first 15 Astros batters and pitched eight scoreless innings in what became a 1-0 Texas win in 12 innings.
